Does anyone know if where you can get rebuild kits for alternators?
My 70amp one has gone really noisey and doesnt seem to be charging consistantly?

Its not difficult to strip them tbh. Their are various places you'd be able to get bearings aswell. Thats if you wanna do it on the cheep. I dont know any refurb places anymore they've all shut down

Yeah i want to do it on the cheap, the alternator cost enough when i got it new id say its done 25000 miles from getting it.
Rebuilding it myself doesnt scare me.

erm, when my alternator went recently, paul got me a refurbed one from harrods in marple in return for my nackered one. not sure how much it was, think might have only been £40, best to ask paul.

Well i would much rather rebuild it if its cheaper as it was a uprated standard alternator to begin with and i dont want to go back to a standard one.

the one from harrods was a 70amp jobby and it had screw terminals rather than the crappy push on plug. Think it was 58quid and its been great. I got a knackard standard 1 for an exchange if u wanna go down that route
Not sure where you would get a rebuild kit from but i know a place in moss side does it cheap

There's a place called northern auto on Rochdale road that might be able to do it or have the parts for you to do it yourself 01618341511

Just do like I did and get a 70amp one off a Diesel Escort Van, plenty of them in the scrapyards!
Take it apart and turn the casing around until its the right orientation, run a lenth of battery lead back to the starter.
"Bodge it and scarper!"
